An Online Farmer Market

A review of an online farmer market. Buy fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and grains online direct from the farmer. Or sell in this virtual farmer market.

Well, I have discovered the mythical utopia for some of you-an online farmer market-a virtual open-air farmer market with online "booth space" for growers, producers and artisans selling direct to the consumer. It is called (drum roll, please)... FARMERS MARKET ONLINE. (I'll bet you would never have figured that out!!!)

Farmers Market Online presents a forum to buy and sell everything from handmade crafts, seafood, meat (bison, elk, lamb, venison, emu, grain-fed beef...), and vegetables to nuts and grains, pet supplies, compost, squirrel feeders, and garden products.

Per the website, Farmers Market Online seeks to "provide a space where shoppers from around the world can meet, correspond and purchase products direct from the producers." Also:

"Designed to serve small-scale farms and ranches, or producers of specialty foods, books, crafts and farm/garden supplies, FARMER'S MARKET ONLINE (tm) "Booths" provide an inexpensive platform on which to display products and services before a diverse and wide-spread audience."

Spaces are leased in the online farmer market for a modest fee (currently $50 for five months, although check the website). The farmer market offers discounts for people who lease multiple booths. You fill out a simple form, pay the lease, and follow some easy instructions to set up your virtual booth in no time. Per their literature, Farmers Market Online has 1500-2000 unique shoppers daily.

For market growers, this might become an excellent supplemental income for you. For consumers, I browsed through the various "booths" while I was there and I liked the selection. But you'll have to check it out for yourself!

This is the open air directory.

This is a great website I'm delighted to recommend. I love it. It gets five stars! However, it cannot match a local farmer market, where all your senses become involved in the market experience--sight, taste, touch, smell, sound...

Are you interested in visiting a Farmer Market, maybe a world-famous one? See my articles, Pike Place Market in Seattle, LA Farmers Market Road Trip and Farmers Markets in USA. (The last article gives a directory to locate any public farmer market in the US.)
