Edgar Cayce wasn't just a psychic and prophet, he was a gardener too. He recommended a 3-day apple detox diet and an 80% fruit and vegetable diet. Both diets are given.

As home gardeners, we plant vegetable gardens because we know that eating vegetables is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. I enjoy reading about what other gardeners did and believed during their sojourn on the earth. Most people don’t think of gardener, horticulturalist, naturalist, or fruit and vegetable diet advocate when they hear the name “Edgar Cayce”, but the fact is he was an avid gardener and he loved planting fruit trees. Among all the famous gardeners I've researched, he is one of the most fascinating. A famous psychic,Cayce was like a new age guru before there was new age. Often the cures he prescribed focused on foods, herbs, and lifestyle changes, such as you might find with holistic medicine or naturopathy.

Who was Edgar Cayce?

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was an American psychic who gave amazing answers on a variety of subjects, mainly diagnosing the illness and then "prescribing" holistic or other pathways of healing for sick people. He was not a medical doctor. His psychic power emerged when he put himself into a sleep-like trance. Because of this habit, he became known as “the sleeping prophet.” Cayce claimed to have absorbed the content of books by merely sleeping on them as a child. He also made predictions about the end of the world and the lost continent of Atlantis that continue to inspire curiosity, controversy and research around the world. A lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ, Cayce believed that anyone could do what he did (psychic readings) through meditation, healthy living, and being willing to put aside self interests.

One of the most interesting of Edgar Cayce readings was when he recommended to a client what has become famous as the Edgar Cayce Apple Diet. It was intended by him as a three day detox diet, not as a weight loss diet, although many have used it for the latter.

The Edgar Cayce Apple Diet or Edgar Cayce Detox Diet

This Edgar Cayce Diet specifically calls for “jenneting” apples, which the official Cayce website suggests refers to any that ripen before St. John’s Day or June 24th. However, it could also refer to White Joaneting, an apple of English origin, which came to be called Jenneting after 1600. It is a yellow apple that ripens in July. Most apples ripen later. Basically, Cayce recommended to a client to have a three day apple diet (a cleansing fast from all other foods) to detoxify his system. In his “reading 1409-9”, Cayce said:

“But don't go without the apples - eat them - all you can - at least five or six apples each day. Chew them up, scrape them well. Drink plenty of water, and follow the three-day diet with the big dose of Olive Oil.” He also recommended rest while on this fast (specifically, he said “don’t work like a horse…” or it would be more detrimental than helpful.) The "big dose" of olive oil is around two teaspoons.
