Global Gardening and Square Foot Gardening Foundation work to end world hunger. "Help End World Hunger" reports on this international charity & gives world hunger facts.

Inspired by a vision to end world hunger, Mel Bartholomew formed Square Foot Gardening Foundation to teach square foot gardening techniques worldwide. The author of Square Foot Gardening and webmaster of Square Foot Gardening.Com, Mel Bartholomew originated Global Gardening Project, which also aims to end world hunger. Examine the world hunger facts below, and you'll see why this international charity is so important.

Global Gardening

Mel Bartholomew operates a program called "Global Gardening." The focus of his Global Gardening Program is to teach a "simple, natural and easy" gardening method which can be put into practice anywhere in the world. The Global Gardening Program easily converts the square foot gardening method into the "square meter" gardening method.

It incorporates the use of compost as an inexpensive growing medium; employs intensive gardening techniques; and encourages variety in vegetable plants. Teaching this method of vegetable gardening provides not just food for villages and families, but also a means of income.

Square Foot Gardening Foundation

The Square Foot Gardening Foundation expresses the vision: "To eliminate world hunger through the use of square foot gardening." I strongly support Square Foot Gardening Foundation's stated mission. From my research, this group appears to be doing great things all around the world.

Reference to a few world hunger facts sheds light on why an international charity with a workable solution is so desperately needed:

• More than 15 million people die each year from starvation and malnutrition-related diseases.

• Of those, three-fourths are children under the age of five.

• In the time it takes to read this article, another 150 people may die of malnutrition-related diseases or starvation.

• Worldwide, 800 million people will go to bed hungry tonight.

According to Mel Bartholomew, some of Square Foot Gardening.com's past projects have included:

  • Donating over 800 teaching gardens to elementary schools in California, Utah, Maine and Florida.
  • Building gardens for Habitat for Humanity houses
  • Boy Scout Eagle projects.
  • Working with the elderly.
  • Gardens for the blind.
  • Wheelchair gardening.
  • Youth correctional facilities.
  • Missionary training.
  • Projects in several third world countries helping others become self-sufficient.
